Man goes viral for proposing to rekindled high school sweetheart 60 years on from first date

They only just reconnected after a decade apart!

In one of the cutest stories of the year, a man has gone viral after proposing to his high school sweetheart sixty years after their first date.

Thomas, a doctor, proposed to Nancy at Tampa Airport earlier this week. Reports state that after dating in high school, Nancy and Thomas broke up and eventually lost touch.

In a speech he gave on one knee, he shared that the couple hadn’t seen each other in a decade and that it had been five decades since their first date. Love always finds a way.

“My dear Nancy, it's been 60 years since we first met, 56 years since we first dated, 10 years since I last saw you, and 20 days since we began this," Thomas said. "You have always been the one I've had a crush on, since your cheerleader days.”

They rekindled less than a month prior to the proposal, so Tommy boy wasted no time.

“For the last three weeks, I have thought of you every day, every hour and have talked to you every night for hours. I longed to see you again, hold you in my arms, and tell you how much you mean to me.”

"You are the most incredible person I have ever met… You're everything that I have ever wanted in a partner, lover and friend," he added, before popping the question.

"I come to you humbly today, June 30th, with a proposal. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, cherish every moment we have together to make every day an exciting new adventure and grow old with you.”

Of course, because there is still good in this world, Nancy said ‘Yes’, fighting back tears as the crowd that had slowly gathered erupted in cheers.

All the best to Thomas and Nancy for a happy marriage - they certainly deserve it!
