King Charles releases official statement following Queen's passing

Our thoughts go out to His Royal Majesty.

Following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth the second, the new King, Charles, released a statement on Friday morning NZT.

"The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majest The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family" he wrote.

"We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, by countless people around the world".

"During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held".

He describes it as a moment of the greatest sadness for the entire Royal Family.

King Charles says she was a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother, and her loss will be deeply felt across Britain and the Commonwealth.

He ends by saying his family will receive comfort from the knowledge of the respect she was so widely held across the world.
