'The Project NZ' is set to be cancelled from Three for good, and soon

The show has said it will be off-air tonight as staff process the shocking news.

It looks like the end of an era might be upon us as Three's 7pm news and entertainment show 'The Project', is reportedly saying its goodbyes.

Warner Bros. Discovery ANZ have sent out a statement revealing the show could be turning off the cameras for good by the end of the year.

Hosted by Jesse Mulligan, Kanoa Lloyd, and Jeremy Corbett, 'The Project' has been on NZ TV since 2017.

For those who've made it a part of their daily routine, you'll know the mix of hard-hitting human interest stories, long list of celebrity guest appearances and funny observations this show has brought to Kiwis screens.

According to Mediawatch, the show will be off-air on Thursday night (tonight) as the crew, consisting of 28 staff members, digest the news.

A spokesperson from Warner Brothers told Newshub: “We have commenced consultation to discontinue The Project on Three from the end of the year - our primary focus is to support our people as we work through this process."

Though, there is a plan in place according to Sarah Bristow, leaving director of news' email to staff.

“If the proposed change is confirmed, we will design a redefined news show in the 7pm timeslot as part of the broader Newshub proposition."

She continued: "I want to acknowledge the hard work of Jesse, Kanoa, Jeremy, Jon Bridges, Ali Ventura and the entire crew of The Project, who have worked tirelessly to bring this show to air for the past seven years."
