Heroic cat saves owner's life

"I do think he saved my life and so does everybody else around me."

A cat has been praised for being a hero and saving his owner's life.

The woman, Sam, 42 from Nottingham was woken up by her cat, Billy at 4.30 am. He pounded his paws on her chest to wake her up while she had a heart attack.

Right after waking up, she realized that she couldn't move her body and had an intense pain down her right side.

After quickly calling her mum to help, she was rushed to the hospital immediately and the doctor told her that she had a heart attack in her sleep. One of her arteries was blocked which resulted in a heart attack.

Sam believes it was Billy who saved her life as he woke her up during the heart attack.

She explained that she had been out with dogs that day, and was feeling all good without any pain when going to bed. She "was a bit shocked" about getting a heart attack.

"I didn't feel ill or have any pains whatsoever," she said.

"Suddenly I woke up in the early hours covered in sweat and couldn't move. Billy was on my chest and was meowing loudly in my ear hole."

Sam explained that Billy is usually not a very social cat and "he likes to be alone", so she was rather shocked that he woke her up.

'He's never woken me up in the night before, he never bothers you. He doesn't wake you for food" she added.

Sam's mum was quite shocked when Sam told her that Billy had woken her up.

'Mum was quite shocked. I told her he woke me up and she was even more shocked. You don't hear about that with cats. I'm just glad he woke me up. Who knows if I would have got up without them, it could've been worse for me."

"I'm grateful towards him as I didn't know if I'd have woken up - my alarm wasn't for another two hours so who knows if I would have woken up".

The doctors told her that it was good that she got to hospital in time.

"I do think he saved my life and so does everybody else around me."

The cat behaviour expert Lucy Hoile explained that Sam's cat Billy may have sensed the physiological changes in his owner.

"It could be that the fact he jumped on her and was meowing was a sign of his anxiety".

'I do believe he probably did save her life, because that's what enabled her to get medical help, but I wouldn't go down the route of saying he did it on purpose. It was him reacting to the situation.'

It's indeed a pawsome work from the cat!
