Auckland teacher performs a beautiful duet with Ed Sheeran on 'Thinking Out Loud'

"Singing with Ed Sheeran was the greatest birthday gift ever and the pinnacle of my teaching career 🎵 "

Grace Ikenasio, a music teacher from Avondale College shared a beautiful moment with singer Ed Sheeran during one of his recent surprise school visits.

Grace got to share the stage with Ed on his hit song 'Thinking Out Loud'.

Posting the video on her Facebook, she wrote:

"Singing with Ed Sheeran was the greatest birthday gift ever and the pinnacle of my teaching career ".

She wrote how Ed "couldn’t have been any more lovely" and that he "made her feel at home on stage and was very encouraging".

The stage where she performed with Ed was the very same stage where she found her love for music, which makes it even more special.

"After talking through our parts briefly, we got through the song signalling to each other through eyebrow raises and rushed mutterings. And by the end of it, I was overcome with sooo much happiness that I couldn’t quite believe what had just happened; mostly because on this very stage at 10 years old, is where I discovered my love of Music and on this same stage Ed and I were both doing what we love, performing. A full circle moment ".

This duet will go on to inspire all the aspiring future Kiwi musicians and like Grace said although it was a huge deal for her as a music educator and performer, she's sure that this duet meant so much more to her students who are "looking to become future singers, musicians, stage managers, producers, sound engineers, artist managers, promoters, music teachers etc."

Ed Sheeran recently performed to 100,000 people across two shows at Eden Park, Auckland after performing to a record-breaking crowd of 48,000 at Sky Stadium in Wellington.
