Fish & chips are a Kiwi classic - especially in summer! But a heated debate has started online after someone suggested we've all been eating the fish wrong...
In a recent comment thread on The Guardian, someone suggested that the batter wrapped around the fish isn't actually for eating - but is instead for keeping the fish safe and fresh...
As you could imagine, people were quick to point out how ridiculous that idea was...
"If you throw away the batter what do you feed the children?" one parented quizzed.
"It’s a bit late to be thinking about protecting the fish by that stage, isn’t it?" said one other person.
"It’s so bonkers and wrong it makes me wonder if he’s actually right and we’ve all, everyone, been doing it wrong." added another.
"All things must be peeled. And. The. Peel. Chucked. Away" a third wrote.
Someone else joked "You. Eat. The. Fish? The fish is there to protect the batter during frying, you peel it off, throw it away, then eat the batter!"
"I wonder how he gets on eating a pie. Does he he suck up the contents through a straw and throws the pastry away" another user wondered.
