Auckland home expected to sell for $6 million and then be pulled down

An Auckland home is expected to sell for $6 million but the new owner has plans to pull the house down and rebuild fresh.

The property is on the seaside in upmarket Westmere.

Real estate agent Angus Campbell, from Barfoot and Thompson, said he expected 32 Rawene Ave to reach "around $6 million" despite the current house on the site being an eccentric design and failing to meet council regulations.

"It doesn't comply because of the creative way in which it was built," he said.

The current owners' parents, who designed the house, were "very creative, artists in their own right", Campbell said.

The house is a two-storey with three bathrooms, 3 bedrooms and palm trees inside that scrape the top of the ceiling. It also has a boathouse.

"What you're buying is really the section," Campbell said.

"The most likely scenario is that the original house will get bowled to build someone else's dream home."
