With the Kiwi summer season approaching, there's no doubt one of the best parts of any backyard barbeque or Christmas table is dessert - specifically, the pavlova.
Always covered with cream and topped with sliced fruit, berries or just shaved chocolate, it's a summer staple here in Aotearoa.
However, it's definitely not the easiest thing in the world to make. Traditional recipes are often fiddly, with too-high temperatures and cooling times being the downfall of many a ruined pavlova.
But one woman has changed all that with her super simple, 20-minute pavlova recipe using that all-star kitchen appliance: The air fryer.
Australian mum Kirsti McGrath posted in the Kmart Air Fryer Recipes Facebook group with her easy peasy recipe.
- 4 egg whites
- 1 cup Caster Sugar
- 3tsp Cornflour
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- Beat egg whites to a soft peak, slowly add caster sugar, fold through cornflour and white vinegar.
- Line 5.3l air fryer with tin foil and baking paper. Evenly spread on baking paper [and place in at] 150 degrees for 20 mins.
- Once finished slightly open the air fryer draw and let sit for another 20 mins. Top with cream and whatever topping you like.
McGrath said the result is "so light and fluffy on the inside and perfectly crunchy on the outside".
The post racked up almost 2000 likes and over 1000 comments from impressed home-cooks, many of whom had a go at making the cake themselves
"Just made it. Turned out better than I thought. Will have for dessert tonight," one person wrote.
"Thanks for sharing, my husband made this today and it was perfect!" praised another.
"Thanks for the recipe! It was lovely. I love my air fryer even more now," wrote a third.
