People are saying this home-made KFC recipe is as good as the real thing

Tasty!

If you’ve ever wished you could whip up a KFC meal at home, without the calories or price tag that come with it, you’re in luck. UK woman Shannen McFaden has shared her recipe for slow-cooker Kfry, and people are saying it’s just as good as the real thing!

Posting to the Facebook group Crockpot/Slow Cooker Recipes & Tips, Shannen shared her method which makes chicken strips that rival the colonel’s own.

To get your chicken strips crispy after coating them in an egg wash and crumb, Shannen recommends cooking the fillets on high for at least two hours.

She also recommends leaving the lid of the slow cooker off in the last ten minutes to allow the chicken to crisp up further.

You can also switch to a lower setting and leave it to cook while you’re out for the day, so you can come home from work to a delicious fried chicken ‘fakeaway’. The dream.

Give the recipe a go and let us know how it turns out! We’d love to hear your thoughts.

Slow Cooker KFC recipe

Ingredients

  • Chicken breast fillets

  • 1 egg white

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 1/2 cup white whole wheat flour

  • 3/4 cup Bread Crumbs

  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander

  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • Sea salt to taste

Method

Lightly spray slow cooker with Olive Oil spray.

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together egg white and milk.

Add spices to flour in another bowl for dredging chicken. Add crumbs to a shallow dish and spread out for coating.

Dip fillets, one at a time, into the egg mixture and allow the excess to drip off. Dredge each filet into flour mixture and dip again into egg mixture.

Coat fillets crumbs and press crumbs onto chicken. Complete this process for each filet.

Spray each filet, on both sides, with Olive Cooking spray and place side by side in the slow cooker.

Lightly sprinkle the top of each filet with pepper. Cover and cook on high 2-1/2 hours.

Remove the lid and allow to continue cooking for 10 minutes. Removing the lid helps the chicken get crunchier.

But just remember to pre heat on high always helps.
