Air New Zealand gives subtle dig about being mentioned in Prince Harry's memoir

Something isn't adding up here...

Is Air New Zealand starting a “Sussex Class” as part of its airline service?

Not quite, but the social media team at Air New Zealand couldn’t help but poke a bit of fun after the airline company were mentioned in Prince Harry’s controversial memoir ‘Spare’.

In his just-released book, Prince Harry wrote that his wife Meghan booked and paid for a first-class flight with Air New Zealand for her father, Thomas Markle, who lives in Mexico.

“We told him, leave Mexico right now: A whole new level of harassment is about to rain down on you, so come to Britain. Now,” Harry wrote.

“Air New Zealand, first class, booked and paid for by Meg.”

But this morning, Air New Zealand posted a social media status, debunking that the flight service exists.

“Introducing #SussexClass,” it wrote on its official social media pages. “Apparently coming soon.” It paid the post with a telling eyes emoji.

The airline told media earlier this week that they have never run a flight service between Mexico and the UK, nor do they have a 'first class' option - only Business Premier.

However, others have claimed that Meghan may have booked an alternative airline to cover a trip between Mexico to the US, before flying Thomas Markle on an Air New Zealand flight from LA to the UK. Air New Zealand previously operated a flight service from LA to London, until the service was stopped during Covid.

While Prince Harry's book has garnered a lot of negative attention, it has broken several records worldwide with its English language version selling more than 1.4 million copies on its first day.
