Dr Phil is ending his talk show after 21 seasons of shocking stories and memorable guests

"This has been an incredible chapter of my life and career, but there is so much more I wish to do."

Dr Phil is saying goodbye!

The daytime television show offering life advice for over two decades is officially ending after the current 2022-2023 season.

Phil McGraw ends his hit show ‘Dr Phil’ after 20+ years of being on the air to pursue “new ventures”, CBS Media Ventures announced.

In the same announcement, Phil said he has been "blessed with over 25 wonderful years in daytime television".

"With this show, we have helped thousands of guests and millions of viewers through everything from addiction and marriage to mental wellness and raising children.”

"This has been an incredible chapter of my life and career, but while I'm moving on from daytime, there is so much more I wish to do,” he added.

What will we do during a sick day at home now? I always found comfort in knowing Phil would keep me company while I lay on the couch with a big fluffy blanket.

During his time on-air, "Dr Phil" has since garnered 31 Daytime Emmy nominations and won five PRISM awards for "accurate depiction of drug, alcohol and tobacco use and addiction," according to CBS.

The company also shared that $35 million was spent on resources to aid guests after their on-stage appearances.

Though we aren’t sure what his new ventures will be, the production company said Phil will focus on a new programme scheduled for an early 2024 launch.

We will miss the crazy and jaw-dropping moments from the range of guests with all their most outlandish stories.

The shock factor will never be the same!

We wish Phil all the best on his new journey, and I have my fingers and toes crossed that we will see him on our screens here in NZ during the next step in his career.
