Topp Twins make first public appearance since cancer treatment

"It was such a fabulous night being in a room that was celebrating the heck out of two of the finest entertainers we’ve ever known"

The Topp Twins 40th Anniversary Tribute Concert went down at the Auckland Civic Theatre on November 7.

The New Zealand entertainment community teamed up to pay tribute to Dame Lynda and Jools to celebrate 40 years of Topp Twins.

Tami Neilson, Anika Moa, Ria Hall, Dame Hinewehi Mohi, Troy Kingi, Jackie Clarke, Annie Crummer and Don McGlashan were among the artists who performed at the tribute concert performing their renditon of the Topp Twin songs.

Some of the country's best comedians also paid homage to the legends with their performance.

At the end of the show, Lynda and Jools got on stage and performed their iconic 'Untouchable Girls'- an absolute fan favourite.

Here's a short glimpse of the performance.

Jeanette from our Breeeze Auckland team who had attended the concert told us that the Twins brought the house down with their closing performance.

"It was such a fabulous night being in a room that was celebrating the heck out of two of the finest entertainers we’ve ever known; classy, funny, poignant and bursting at the seams with love and talent - just awesome" Jeanette said.

The twins shared pictures from the night and wrote:

"Wow what an amazing night

Topp Class performers crew and audience, it was the best night ever

Thank you Lynda and Jools Topp".

Ahead of the show, Tami Nelison went on Twitter to share how big of an honour it is for her.

She wrote:

"They also showed me how to stand and fight for what is right, use your voice for activism, all while delivering joy. Tonight I have the huge honour of honouring them while we raise funds for their fight with cancer. I hope we can lift them up the way they’ve lifted us all ".

This is the twins first public appearance since Lynda's diagnosis in March 2022.

Earlier this year, they shared a heartbreaking news that they both are battling breast cancer.

The Topp Twins said they had a "pretty hard journey" battling cancer but they're both "alive and kicking".

Recently in September, it was reavealed that Lynda Topp was forced to end her chemotherapy due to a "nerve-damaging side effect".

"Lynda has had to stop her Chemo Treatment due to Chemo induced peripheral neuropathy which is a nerve damaging side effect of the weekly chemo she was receiving" they wrote.

"Symptoms are tingling, pain, numbness and reduced balance in her feet, she is currently receiving Accupunture treatment and natural plant based remedies as there is no known cure for this."

Proceeds from the tribute concert will go pay for twins ongoing treatment and living costs.

We're sending our love and positive thoughts to both Lynda and Jools.
