Toy company urging Kiwis to start Christmas shopping now as shortage threatens

If you haven't already started thinking about what gifts you're giving this Christmas, it might be time to start.

Toy company Planet Fun has urged parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and anyone else thinking of nabbing toys for Christmas gifts to start buying now as their Christmas stock still remains stuck in container ships unable to be unloaded.

Planet Fun chief executive Jeremy Kirk-Smith told Newshub that several popular brands are being impacted by the delays.

"The supply chain is an absolute mess from the very early stages of production," he said.

We used to be able to order goods and get them shipped in 90 days, and then we would allow 25 days to get to New Zealand - that time period is now a minimum of six and sometimes seven or eight months.

He went on to say that the likes of America are paying exorberant prices to ensure that their toys get to store shelves in time for the festive season. But that's hard to do in NZ when only 75% of the ships that used to come to NZ are actually coming.

So, if that isn't motivation to get started with your Christmas shopping, then we don't know what is! Or perhaps you could look at something handmade instead?
