Gemma & Richie McCaw encourage Kiwis to knit woollen clothing for newborns in hospital

Must See

Gemma & Richie McCaw have put the call out to knitters to get the needles out and knit some little woolen items for newborn babies.

"Calling all knitters…we NEED your help! Mum just advised me that the Queen Mary Maternity Ward at Dunedin Hospital & Christchurch Women’s Hospital are in desperate need of woolen clothing for their little newborn babies." Gemma wrote on her Facebook page.

"Although both @richiemccaw and I have never knitted before, we thought we should step outside our comfort zone so we’ve decided to each knit a woolen hat. If you want to help out as well, please knit a hat, booties, vest, cardi (or anything) and use wool only as the breathable material helps babies retain their body temperature without the risk of overheating. If you have any knitting purls of wisdom, do let us know We will keep you updated with our progress #knithappens " she continued.

Hundreds of Kiwis flocked to the comment section to tag friends and family and encourage them to get knitting too.

We can't wait to see how Gem & Richie get on knitting their hats!

Great cause, if you can get behind it and donate some gorgeous items for babies, please do.
