Many Kiwis have been devestated to learn the passing of Kiwi broadcasting legend Philip Sherry.
He will be remembered as one of New Zealand’s longest serving newsreaders, a kind and generous man with invaluble knowledge.
For our Ali Leonard, he was her wedding celebrant at her 2004 wedding to her husband John.
Remembering Philip as the legend he was, Ali penned the following:
"Philip Sherry was an absolute legend. Those who worked with him will tell you what a kind man he was, so helpful to all. Generous with his knowledge and such a calm presence."
"We were lucky to have him as our Wedding Celebrant in 2004. I remember our first wedding chat with him and how he was thrilled to know that we were related to Ernie Leonard."
"Uncle Ernie" who was instrumental in creating the Maori broadcasting department at TVNZ. Philip had a great wit, very dry! I always knew something funny was coming if he said 'My dear girl/boy'."
"When he read the very first news bulletin on TV3 in 1989 he was already a legend! We send much love to Philips family who will be sorely missing a wonderful human."
