Buckingham Palace has released some great news for those residing in the UK - their annual bank holiday weekend is being extended by one day in 2022.

The reason for the extended long weekend is for very special, Her Majesty The Queen is celebrating her Platinum Jubilee.

The special four-day Bank Holiday weekend will take place between 2nd and 5th June, during which Trooping the Colour will be staged in full for the first time since the pandemic began.

The following day a Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen's reign will be held at St Paul's Cathedral and the third day of the weekend, a Saturday, will see the Queen joined by members of the royal family at the Derby, held at Epsom Downs.

That evening, a live concert will be staged at Buckingham Palace - called the Platinum Party at the Palace.

Performers have yet to be named but it is billed as bringing together some of the world's biggest entertainment stars to celebrate memorable moments from the Queen's seven-decade reign.

Elizabeth II will be the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, having acceded to the throne on 6th February 1952, when she was 25 years old.

There is no word on whether we will see any perks of the UK's extended long weekend here, but as we are a Commonwealth country much loved by the Queen, we can't rule it out just yet!
