Elton John's ex-wife Renate Blauel takes legal action against him

She's been largely out of the spotlight, but now she is getting back at Elton.

Sir Elton John's ex-wife, Renate Blauel, has launched legal procecedings against him at the high court.

It was a rare intervention by Blauel, who had avoided publicity for decades. She has filed legal paperwork last week, seeking an injunction against her ex-husband, according to the fillings seen by the Guardian.

Blauel met John when he was recording his 1983 comeback album, Too Low for Zero and the pair married a year later while on tour in Australia. Four years later, the couple ended their marriage. Later, John publicly announced that he was gay and went on to meet his future husband, David Furnish.

Since the announcement, Blauel had rarely been in the limelight, although there was renewed interest in her relationship when it was briefly depicted in John's biopic film, Rocketman.

Blauel's lawyer has confirmed that she had filed the paperwork but declined to provide an explanation on why she required to seek a high court injunction after decades since their separation but said that Blauel wishes to resolve the issue "amicably". John's representatives declined to comment on the case.

In his autobiography published last year, John had described the agony he suffered during the divorce with Blauel and his struggle to accept his sexuality. In the book, he wrote, "I'd broken the heart of someone I loved and who loved me unconditionally, someone I couldn't fault in any way. Despite all the pain, there was no acrimony involved at all. For years afterwards, whenever something happened to me, the press would turn up on her doorstep, looking for her to dish the dirt, and she never, ever has: she told them to leave her alone."
