It's a habit that we've had instilled in us for years - to always rinse dishes before putting it in the dishwasher.
But research from Australian Consumer Company CHOICE revealed that you're wasting your time and water to rinse your dishes pre-dishwasher.
Testing done by Choice experts found rinsing dishes before you put them in the dishwasher doesn't make any difference to how clean they'll come out at the end.
But scraping off any large bits of food residue is still very important, otherwise, they'll accumulate in your dishwasher.
Choice experts also said that using a modern dishwasher on a full load is six times more water-efficient and energy-efficient than washing your dishes by hand.
Plus getting the water in your sink hot enough to do the dishes takes nearly twice as much energy as you'd use running your dishwasher.
But if you find yourself having issues with your dishwasher's soap build-up and other weird odours, give your dishwasher the quick fix with 1 cup of vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher or in a bowl on the rack for a quality clean. But check your manual first, as some machine brands can't handle vinegar.
