Families come in all different shapes and sizes, but a recent study out of Australian has found the 'optimum' number of children that make parents the happiest.

The researchers followed a number of families over a 5 year period and monitored their happiness as their families grew in size.

The result that they came up with? Having 4 children is the best way to boost your happiness.

"Larger families are more chaotic and expensive, this is balanced out by the joy in their lives." the study said.

The researchers add that quite often parents of larger families find themself gaining more peace, quiet and independence earlier, as the older siblings grow and tend to take care of their younger ones!

So there we have it - might be time to expand the whanau!
