Perdita, the 'World's Worst Cat,' is up for adoption

An American animal shelter is trying to find a home for who they've dubbed the 'world's worst cat'.

Perdita, a 4-year-old black and white cat with a serious stare, was found by Mitchell County Animal Rescue in North Carolina on Christmas eve after her previous owner died.

The shelter's manager Brittany Taylor told ABC News Perdita was "pretty sweet" when she first arrived.

But slowly, her devious nature begun to show.

Posting an ad on their Facebook page this week, the animal shelter was brutal in advertising a photo of the sharp-eyed cat with the title "We thought she was sick, but it turns out she is just a jerk."

The shelter explains that Perdita is "not for the faint of heart," who enjoys "staring into your soul until you feel as if you may never be cheerful again"

Her dislikes include other cats, the colour pink, dogs, kids, Disney films, the Dixie Chicks, and especially hugs.

"She's single and ready to be socially awkward with a socially awkward human who understands personal space."

The ad's been shared online over four thousand times, with thousands of comments from cat fans who relate with their own equally grumpy cats.

The shelter, who waived the adoption fee for Perdita, say that they're thrilled that over 50 applications have come in for her, but Perdita's not impressed with her newfound fame."
