It's become a Christmas tradition of many Kiwi's lives, the giant Santa that adorns the Farmers Building in Auckland's Queen St, but now after its six decade reign, Santa has officially retired.
This weekend, the iconic giant Santa will be installed for the last time.
According to the press release, "despite his place in the hearts of many, the larger-than-life Santa is weary after nearly sixty years of service."
"To store, maintain and assemble Santa costs over two hundred thousand dollars a year and with another refresh due imminently, now is a fitting time for him to take a well-earned rest."
"Santa will hang up his red coat after Christmas 2019; the construction will be disassembled for the last time and retired ahead of its sixtieth year of service."
