73-year-old Joan is proving that you are never to old to start your fitness journey!
Just after she turned 70, doctors warned her that she needed to make some lifestyle changes if she wanted to keep on top of her health. Already she was on multiple medications for high blood pressure, high cholesterol and acid reflux and the doctors said they could either up her dose, or learn some new healthier habits.
She reportedly about 198 pounds (90kgs) and wore a size 22 dress.
“I knew I had to do something different,” Joan told Shape. “I had watched my mum go through the same thing, taking medication after medication, and I didn’t want that life for myself.”
With the help of her daughter, who is a professional chef and a dedicated yogi, Joan purchased an iPhone and learned to use basic fitness apps.
Then she began going on walks for cardio, practicing yoga and lifting weights.
She has currently lost 62 pounds (28kgs) and is off her medication.
Joan has an Instagram account (@trainwithjoan) that she regularly updates with inspriational posts and her progress shots.
