Italian bars and restaurants starting to use pasta as straws to reduce plastic waste

Italians are taking one of the things they know best (pasta) and using it to help find a solution to our global environmental crisis.

In a bid to help reduce Italy's plastic waste, some bars and restaurants are swapping plastic straws for pasta ones.

Recently, reddit user u/GranFabio posted a picture, showing the initiative some places have been taking.

While the post was popular online, many pointed out that to be taken seriously, the bars and restaurants should also ditch the plastic cups.

Pasta straws aren't a brand new intiative, a company called Stroodles already have them available for sale.

On their website they state that the straws last for around an hour, are tasteless and can be left on the compost heap when you finish with them.

Stroodles are made of wheat and water and are 100 percent vegan and biodegradable, however, they aren’t suitable for people with gluten intolerance.
