Find out where some of your favourite 80s stars are now

80s

The 80s are seriously the glory days of the film industry. So many iconic and memorable movies came out of the decade, and many still posess a large cult following.

But where are some of our favourite actors and actresses that starred in these 80s films?

Take a look below!

Ralph Macchio

Wax on, wax off! Everyone's favourite karate kid found acting some success after 1984's The Karate Kid with the comedy hit My Cousin Vinny, and he appeared in several episodes of tv show Ugly Betty.

Currently, he is a loving father to his kids and has reprised his iconic role in the form of a new Youtube series called Cobra Kai where you can see Daniel square off again against Johnny Lawrence.

Jennifer Grey

The 80s saw Jennifer Grey soar to fame. She was in some of the decades biggest films like Ferris Bueller's Day Off and of course, Dirty Dancing. The film was an astronomical success, but Grey was unable to enjoy her newfound stardom.

Two weeks before the film's release, Grey and her then-boyfriend, Matthew Broderick, were involved in a head-on collision in Northern Ireland that killed a mother and daughter in the other vehicle. Suffering from "survivor's guilt,"

In the 90s she underwent two rhinoplasty procedures that changed her appearance so much, many argue that it ended her career.

Most recently, Jennifer has had a small role on the well-known TV drama Grey's Anatomy.

Matthew Broderick

He made his name by being that clever high school slacker from the iconic 80s film Ferris Bueller's Day Off. He then made fame again when he voiced adult Simba in
arguably the biggest animated film of the 90s - The Lion King.

In present day, Matthew has made his West End debut in The Starry Messenger and is currently married to Sex and the City's Sarah Jessica Parker. The pair share three children.

Kevin Bacon

After 1984's Footloose, Kevin Bacon went on to star in some great films like Apollo 13, X-Men and Mystc Rover. He is married - his wife is actually his ninth cousin, once removed - and has two children.

According to multiple sources, his career took a bit of a nose dive as of late, and he is currently mainly doing television commercials.

Molly Ringwald

After appearing in many popular 80s films like The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles and Pretty In Pink, Molly has continued to dip her toes into acting.

It was reported by the LA Times that Molly had turned down multiple big ticket roles at the start of the 90s which may have seen her 80s icon status soar into the modern day.

While she still acted throughout the 90s and 2000s, she's only really reemerged back into the spotlight thanks to her starring role in Netflix's hugely popular teen show Riverdale (which stars NZ's own KJ Apa).

Jason Bateman

Few young actors in the 1980s worked as hard as Jason Bateman. From Little House on the Prairie to Silver Spoons to The Hogan Family, he acted (and even directed) consistently throughout his childhood and teenage years.

Bateman continued to work throughout the ‘90s, despite suffering from drug and alcohol addictions. His major return came with Arrested Development, followed by a string of popular comedy films. He currently stars in and produces the Netflix series Ozark.

Judd Nelson

In the 1980’s, Judd Nelson made a name for himself playing the “criminal” in The Breakfast Club and as Alec Newbary in St. Elmo's Fire.

After his 80’s glory days, he found success as Nick Peretti in New Jack City and as Jack Richmond in Suddenly Susan. Since then he’s stayed fairly active, making small guest appearances in film and on television. In 2016 he reprised his role of Rodimus Prime from the 80’s animated film The Transformers: The Movie in the fourth installment in Michael Bay’s Transformers series.

He has also authored four books released on Kindle: The Power of SpeechNine of DiamondsThe Gig and Water Music.
