Kiwi photographer catches glimpse of very rare white fantail

Must See 30/08/2019

Earlier this year, Kiwi wildlife photographer Edin Whitehead captured the image of a very remarkable creature which calls NZ its' home.

The creature was a pīwakawaka, or fantail, and it is very unique.

While many assume that the little fantail is albino, it actually has Leucism. Leucism is a partial loss of pigmentation which makes the little guy white instead of the ordinary brown.

A big tell-tale sign is that the fantails eyes are black, where as if it was albino, it would have pink eyes.

Edin managed to capture some gorgeous photos of the beautiful wee bird - which has now understandbly gone viral!
