A video has emerged from the web archives of a teenage Ed Sheeran auditioning for a TV boyband in 2007, and it is hilarious.
The behind-the-scenes footage shows the audition process for TV show Brittania High, a fictional performing arts school, inspired by High School Musical and Glee. The show was looking for six talented teens who could sing, dance and act.
"We're looking for triple threats - they've got to be stars!" Arlene Phillips says in the video, who judges the dancing portion of the auditions.
We're then treated to a young Ed Sheeran performing a very lack lustre dance routine to Justin Timberlake's 'Like I Love You', and it's pretty adorable. Arlene is unimpressed with audition, saying he's "not even an option".
Ed himself is a bit shocked when he gets through to the next round of auditions, saying "I'm very surprised actually, because I can't dance."
Five years later, fellow auditioner Danielle Peazer (ex-girlfriend of One Direction's Liam Payne) took to Twitter to share the video of Ed dancing, saying "Good effort Edward", to which Ed replied:
In the second round of auditions, Arlene turns to the camera and says: "Ed hasn't a clue what he's doing," she says pityingly, "but he's trying." Our hearts break for poor little Ed, but jokes on you Arlene if you could see him now.
The singing coaches clearly see his talents though, commenting "He's great, he's quirky and his voice is classic rock singer. He's [only]16, he's the real thing!"
Sadly, Ed didn't make it through the final round of auditions, which might actually be for the best because look at him now! Check out the video above.
