Kiwis who possess soft plastics will be happy to hear that the recycling of the products are starting back up again in New Zealand - but there is a catch.
It is only Auckland who will be recycling the soft plastics.
The Love NZ Soft Plastic Recycling programme was cut last year when it became inundated with too much plastic, but now it is returning to our biggest city with 37 retail stores across Auckland restarting collection.
The Love NZ Soft Plastics Recycling said that the reason why they are restarting in Auckland (and by the sounds will be taking a phased approach to the issue) is because they needed to re-shape the model to match how much Kiwis collect.
About 400 tonnes of plastic stored in depots across the country was going nowhere after an Australian manufacturer stopped accepting soft plastics collected in supermarkets.
During its hiatus, the scheme processed an estimated 12 million individual pieces of plastic packaging at New Zealand processors, Future Post and 2nd Life Plastics, that would have otherwise gone to landfill.
