Does the royal baby name have a New Zealand influence?

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed their son would be called Archie, it had an Auckland family wondering whether the idea had come from them.

The first hint of his name was actually back in October when Prince Harry met a young boy at the Auckland viaduct.

Last year when Prince Harry and Markle met crowds at the viaduct - the Somerville-Ryan family and friends gave Harry a Kiwi book called 'little gems'. The Prince asked their names and was stopped in his tracks by one.

"He said 'Archie, I like that name'," Archie Somerville-Ryan said.

Prince Harry liked it so much he called his wife over to tell her.

"My friend Bridget said 'oh my goodness he was so into Archie - he's definitely going to call the baby Archie' and I thought 'what?' mum Emily Somerville-Ryan told Newshub.

A number of babies and children caught Harry's eye and beard over the royal tour to Australia and New Zealand, but perhaps it was Archie Somerville-Ryan who left a lasting impact.

Prince Harry joked Archie already has some resemblance to himself when presenting his newborn to the world on Wednesday.

"He's already got a little bit of facial hair as well," he said. "Wonderful."

Archie is seventh in line to the throne.
