Amazing Te Reo rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody

Must See 03/12/2018

Thousands of people have been stunned by a stunning rendition Queen's hit 'Bohemian Rhapsody' in te reo Māori.

The two-minute video, which was shot in Waiwera, north of Auckland, stars the Hātea Kapa Haka group and features social media star William Waiirua.

Waiirua shared it on his Facebook page, where it's received more than 230,000 views and more than 2800 shares.

Hātea Kapa Haka head tutor Pauline Hopa told NZME the group decided to film the video as tribute to Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury and to celebrate the new Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

"I have always loved the song 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. But never in my life did I think that we would be part of something this big," she said.

The audience agrees the song is a fitting tribute to Mercury, with many saying he would have been pleased with the video.

"Oh Freddie would haves loved this," one person wrote.

"Freddie would be so PROUD as his legacy lives on in awesome Whangārei," said another.
