Some supermarkets across New Zealand are suffering a banana shortage and a shipping delay means supplies might not be back to normal until the end of the month.
Countdown and Foodstuffs, which owns New World and Pak 'n Save, appear to be running low on bananas with their suppliers being hit by unforeseen shipping issues, reports Stuff.
A Countdown spokesperson told Stuff that a ship carrying the fruit, imported from Mexico, Ecuador and the Philippines, had to change its route causing a delay.
"It is a national issue but supply varies from store to store," the Countdown spokesperson said.
- In 2016, Countdown Ponsonby suffered from limited banana stocks after a boat carrying the fruit broke down off the coast of Ecuador.
