'Mamma Mia' star Pierce Brosnan says he never expected that the film would have the great reaction it did when it was first released in 2008.
Now, 10 years later, the cast is celebrating the release of Mamma Mia 2: Here We Go Again!
But Pierce, who plays Sam Carmichael in the film, can't get over the first time he watched himself singing on the big screen.
The 65-year-old says he and longtime friend/neighbour Barbra Streisand watched the first film together.
“We thought we’d show it to Barbra. She wanted to see it, so we went over to her house and put the movie on," he told Jimmy Fallon.
"She said, ‘Come sit beside me, darling,’” Pierce recalled. “I’m watching the movie thinking, ‘What am I doing showing this to Barbra Streisand?’”
“The movie finished and she said, ‘That was absolutely wonderful, darling.’ I said, ‘Thank you so much’ and at that point, her dog, Sammie, bit my arm."
“She said, ‘Oh Sammy, are you alright? I said, ‘But, Barbra—she just bit me.’”
"The dog did not like your performance," joked Jimmy Fallon.
Thankfully audiences don't have such a reaction to Pierce Brosnan's singing voice, as ticket sales have bested the opening of the first film by 24 per cent.
