If you haven't already heard the news, Ed Sheeran is engaged to childhood friend, Cherry Seaborn.
He announced the news on his Instagram recently saying: "Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love."
Ed has kept his personal life fairly private so many people don't know how much of an impact, Cherry had on his life and how she was there for him at the right time.
Ed and Cherry first met as pupils at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk.
They then went their seperate ways, Ed dropped out to pursue music and Cherry attended Duke University in North Carolina to study biology.
At the end of 2015 when Ed took a year off from music and social media he reached a low point.
In a recent interview Ed said he even locked himself away in his London home for four months as he struggled to come to terms with his enormous celebrity status.
"I watched movies. I couldn’t just go out and get a pint of milk. I always wanted to maintain normality. I was ordering takeaways and putting on a lot of weight," he admitted in an interview.
Ed then used his wealth to travel the world for fun, and used the time to reconnect with his roots.
Knowing that Cherry was in America, he reconnected with her, and sources told The Mirror say she was “delighted to hear from her school friend”.
"This has been the first time I’ve ever actually had the time to fall in love properly. I’ve always got into relationships very passionately — I’m a redhead and also Irish," Ed previously said of the early days of his relationship.
The two then took time to travel through Japan, NZ and Ghana together, before Cherry returned to the UK to move close to Ed.
The couple now live together and live a private life away from the cameras when possible.
Speaking previously on BBC Radio 2, he said: "I'm actually the happiest I've been and it's because I had a year to spend with someone. I've always started relationships then gone off on tour.”
"I spent every day for a year with this certain person, we kind of have a strong relationship now which is good.”
"I'm really secure now, we live together and we have cats, and I think when you have cats that's kind of it."
