Helen George, the star of the British medical drama Call The Midwife, has admitted that she almost took her career in the entertainment industry down the musical career path rather than the acting one.

The actress, who plays the troubled Trixie Franklin, revealed her history on the singing stage and opened up about her time as Elton John's back up singer.

Helen admitted she caught the eye of Elton when she was studying musical theatre at the Royal Academy of Music in 2005.

She sang for him, and it wasn't long before he offered up a role to her.

Gushing over her past experiences, Helen told Mirror Online: "He took some of us along on his tour that year, so I was a backing vocalist."

"We went to places like the Royal Albert Hall, Wembley, really amazing places."

“It was a magical time, we’d hang out with him and [his husband] David Furnish in the bar afterwards.

"They were lovely, David is so nice. It was incredible.”
