Once again, Queen makes history, this time for being the first British band ever to be celebrated on an official UK coin!

The Royal Mint has announced that the coin will be available from today with the Royal Highness on one side and Queen band on the other side.

Available in gold proof, silver proof and brilliant uncirculated, the coin recognises all four members of the band by portraying each member's iconic instruments:

  • Bechstein™ grand piano - the very same one singer Freddie Mercury played for Bohemian Rhapsody
  • Brian May's longtime 'Red Special' guitar
  • John Deacon's Fender Precision Bass™
  • Roger Taylor's Ludwig™ bass drum decorated with the iconic Queen crest.

The coin also features the Queen logo underscored with the iconic mic stand in the centre of the coin.

Guitarist Brian May says, "This is a big 'Who could have imagined it?' moment for us," He continued, "When we began as Queen, even the first rung of the ladder to recognition seemed remote and unreachable. To have our band recognised and our music celebrated in this way is very touching - a real honour."

This collection also marks The Royal Mint's first 'Music Legends' collection.

Prices for the limited edition coins range from £13 for a £5 brilliant uncirculated coin to £2,020 for the one-ounce gold proof coin in a £100 denomination. Click here for the full details.
