The powerful speech of a cancer-stricken head boy

Jake Bailey of Christchurch Boys' High was head boy. An inspiring leader, mentor and recently, battler of cancer.

Diagnosed with a deadly form of cancer one week ago, Bailey was released from hospital to deliver one final speech. Not a dry eye in the assembly, or our office here at The Breeze.

His words of wisdom are beyond his 18 years as he tells fellow students to, "Be gallant, be great and be gracious".

His terminal illness comes with great sadness, but Bailey has left an impacting mark on both the high-school and the whole of New Zealand, and for that we want to honour this young man's courage - Jake, you are a true hero.
