Wanaka cafés work to stop using single-use coffee cups by 2022

Cafe owners in the small lakeside Central Otago town of Wanaka are taking a big step forward in a bid to stop polluting our beautiful planet.

They plan to ditch all single-use coffee cups by 2022 - and three of the town's cafe's have already stopped selling any disposable cups.

The awesome intiative by 'Again Again' is said to be playing a big help in the town getting to the point of using no single-use coffee cups.

Again Again is a takeaway cup lending scheme that was first launched in Wellington a couple of years ago.

It works by customers choosing to borrow one of the cups at the point of sale with a $3 deposit, which is fully refunded when the cup is returned to any café in the network. Apparently the idea is taking off all across the country.
