Ernie and the Magic Kennel is the debut book written by The Breeze's Robert Rakete and Jeanette Thomas. The story was inspired by The Breeze's own station dog Ernie, and Jeanette's rescue dog Benny.
Each book purchased will support two charities: the Saving Hope Foundation, and Duffy Books in Homes.
About the authors:
Robert Rakete & Jeanette Thomas share their mornings together on The Breeze Auckland 93.4FM breakfast show, 6-10am weekdays.
Robert has a blended family of five kids with his wife Nikki. He believes that chocolate can also be a well balanced breakfast, loves the music of Prince, and is an honorary Wiggle who occasionally performs with The Wiggles.
Jeanette is married to Dave the policeman, with two great teenagers, two cats, two chickens and Benny the dog. Jeanette adores animals, is all about caring for our environment, loves to bake and much prefers to wear a good pair of sneakers and jeans.
About the dogs:
Ernie is a tri-coloured Pembroke Welsh Corgi, who works at The Breeze as the C.H.O (Chief Happiness Officer). His favourite hobbies include heading to the beach, playing with his fellow log-shaped friends, and finding cheese.
Benny was a stray puppy who was adopted from an animal shelter by Jeanette's family at four months old. He loves cuddles, tummy scratches and eating things he shouldn't.
About the charities:
Jeanette is donating her earnings from this book to the Saving Hope Foundation. A charity which started in 2017, they have become one of NZ's largest dog rescue groups. So far they have rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed well over 1,000 dogs and puppies into loving forever homes.
Robert is donating his earnings from this book to Duffy Books in Homes Foundation. The charity aims to encourage a love of books in low decile primary and intermediate school kids, so they can "become adults who inspire a love of reading".
