Queen Elizabeth met her great-granddaughter Lilibet for the first time at Windsor Castle on Thursday (02.06.22).
The 96-year-old monarch met her 1 year old great-granddaughter - who is the youngest child of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex - at Windsor after the royals attended Trooping the Colour, the Daily Mail newspaper reports.
Queen Elizabeth's childhood nickname was 'Lilibet'. When she was a toddler, she could not pronounce 'Elizabeth', so her grandfather King George V would affectionately call her 'Lilibet', imitating how she tried to pronounce her name.
Duke and Duchess of Sussex chose 'Lilibet' as their daughter's name in honour of her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth. Her middle name 'Diana' was also in honour of her late grandmother Princess Diana.
The duke and duchess - who also have a three-year-old son called Archie - have returned to the UK for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
