St Patrick's Day 2024: Here's where Kiwis will be celebrating the big event around NZ

Make it a fun day for the whole family.
15 March 2024 4:37PM

New Zealand is home to 800,000 Kiwis of Irish descent, so St. Patrick's Day is set to be a huge day full of celebrations across the country.

As someone with Irish blood coursing through my veins, I’ll be sure to be sure to be sporting my brightest of greens and heading to one of the many family-friendly events taking place.

From lively parades to traditional music and dance festivals, there's something for everyone to enjoy this St. Patrick's Day and we’ve found the biggest celebrations.

ST PATRICK’S DAY EVENTS IN NZ

AUCKLAND ST PATRICK'S DAY
The St Patrick’s Festival Auckland is returning to Queen Street for a big celebration - the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere - on the day itself, Sunday 17th of March.

At midday, a sea of green, white and orange will weave the streets making its way down Queen Street, between Mayoral Drive and Wakefield Street and ending on Fort Street.

Take a seat and watch all of the themed floats and talented dancers to the rolling sound of Irish tunes.

As the parade wraps up you can make your way to Te Komititanga Square for the Barfoot & Thompson Irish Music and Dance Festival, where the kiddos can take part in all things arts and crafts.

WELLINGTON ST PATRICK'S DAY
This year Wellington is also celebrating with their very own parade and Waterfront concert on Sunday the 17th of March.

Promising a day full of Irish music, dancing and entertainment it all kicks off at Kumutoto Square.

12.00pm - music with Paddy McCann at Kumutoto Square.
1.00pm - The parade starts from Kumutoto Square (near Flamingo Joe's). Join in or simply watch the parade festivities pass by.
