Taking time out for your feet
I’m a little bit nervous about coming here today. After all I’m always worried my feel are going to smell a little after being hidden away in boots all day. And I work those babies hard. I spend half my day running around and don’t put a lot of time into pampering those two feet that manage to carry me everywhere.
It’s reassuring to come into Ease in Ponsonby and discover it’s not at all threatening. Actually it just feels like a place of tranquillity. The walls are a lovely leafy green, and the women are dressed in traditional Thai costumes, and instead of massage tables I’m invited to sit in a rattan arm chair (with soft cushions) and put my feet up.
It’s lovely. I can feel the stress ebbing out of my feet, and the pressure points actually make my body respond depending on where she presses. I’ve asked for firm pressure, and it certainly is (you can ask them to take it easy). The massage goes up to my knees, and it’s blissful.
All too soon it’s done, and I’m preparing to re enter the busy streets when they stop me. Apparently it’s not all about the feet! A Thai foot massage includes hand and arm massage, and a great shoulder and neck knead. It’s simply fantastic.
The first thing I do when it’s over is book myself in again. Then I walk out, noticing how light and unstressed my feet feel. It’s funny how much stress we can hold onto without being aware of it at all.
