Summer Savers - Skin
Because we live in such a beautiful, clean, green country, with less pollution to block the UV rays from the sun, its rays are harsher, burning skin quicker and causing permanent damage. As well as being extra sensible, avoiding the sun between 10am and 4pm, using a high factor sunscreen, and keeping children covered as much as possible, here are a few suggestions on how to summer-proof your skin so you and your family can wave goodbye to sunburn and hello to safe summer months.
A great treat after a day in the sun is to apply a
cooling face mask. This one uses ingredients that you would normally find in your kitchen! So there is no need to spend big bucks on treatments:
¼ cup of plain natural yoghurt
1 dsp of softened runny honey
Simply combine the ingredients and apply to the face, or any part of the body that is sore from the sun.
Leave for 15 minutes and remove with warm water.
For dry skin, use extra honey. For oily skin, use less.
Cover any excess and store in the fridge.
The great thing about this mask is that it can be used on children too, although you may want to keep an eye on them in case they start eating it!
As men’s skin is thicker and more resilient than women’s, they sometimes take less care of it, but the sun isn’t selective about who it burns so guys also need a high SPF sunscreen. Steal a bit of your partner’s, daughter’s or sister’s moisturiser at the end of a day outdoors as the sun is particularly drying to skin.
